Hi friends! I'm back today with one more fun costume DIY to share with y'all, just in time for Halloween :) No, we are not unicorns haha! We are melted ice cream cones (although you could combine the two for a unicone :)) Madeline's favorite ice cream flavor is strawberry, so I thought this would be so fun to do! I got everything we needed for this look from Amazon, and just like our scarecrow looks, it was easy to put together. I'll share some photos and below that, I'll link everything we're wearing for our costumes + makeup. I'll talk through the steps for the makeup look. If you're a visual learner like I am, see the steps below and check out my IG reels for a video!
Next, I drew the shape of the ice cream splat on my face with this white eye liner.
Then, I colored in the splat with this pink face paint I added a few extra drops on my face.
I then set that in place so that it wouldn't be as sticky with the brightest pink eyeshadow from this palette (it's your best friend for Halloween makeup looks).
I then took a highlight and dabbed it in a few of the curves on the splat.
You want the splat to look like it's sort of 3D, standing off your face, so I outlined it in a deep tan/brown from the same eyeshadow palette.
After that, I bronzed around my jaw line + added a contoured the side of my face opposite to the splat. I then took that same bright pink eyeshadow and contoured in the same spot with this pink.
The eye opposite of the splat, I added the same pink eyeshadow to the crease and heavily blended it + added a shimmer from the same palette to the lids and under my brow bone for a highlight.
Next, I filled in my brows with my normal pencil + added liner. To create a contrast (which I loved), I did a black winged liner on the eye opposite the splat and white winged liner on the eye in the splat. Went over lightly with mascara then added these full lashes.
Now for the fun part...sprinkles!!! I went over my brow (the one in the splat only) with eyelash glue (don't worry, it all came off my brow with a makeup wipe) then with an eyeshadow brush, I pressed the sprinkles onto my brow. I love how some fell into my lash for an extra cool touch. Tip: put a towel underneath you to catch the sprinkles that fall for less mess.
Next, lips! I used this NYX bright pink stain which was perfect. Right after applying, I pressed sprinkles onto my lips, and they actually stayed for hours until I used a makeup wipe to take them off.
For my neck, I used this freckle pen to draw lines that would look like a waffle cone. Simply go diagonally across the next one way then diagonally the other way. I then filled in the squares with a bronzer + added a little highlight.
Lastly, the hair! These pink wigs turned out to be awesome!!! I'm also so glad we had them for the cone part. We used a real cone, but it really needs to go on our hairline for the melted splat to look realistic. Getting it to stick was the catch, and I did not want to add liquid latex into our hair. Having the wig was a lifesaver. I was able to stick the cones onto the wig. Now for the ice cream around the cone, I simply used half of a tissue, coated it in liquid latex and placed it around the base of the cone. I then colored it with the same pink face paint to match and topped that with sprinkles. It seriously turned out SO cute, and I just love how it all came together.
This past weekend, our family got together for our day of fall fun. We paint mini pumpkins, have Goulash for dinner, watch Halloween movies, all the fun Halloween and fall things! One movie we always watch is Hocus Pocus. It's a favorite for me and my sister. Something else we love to do together is put together a charcuterie board for the whole family to enjoy. Hannah is basically the charcuterie board queen and has been teaching me her ways! We had been planning this board, making the Sanderson sisters out of cheese haha, and it turned out cuter than we could have ever imagined! It was actually pretty easy to do. Below the photos, I'll share a list of everything we used on the board + a few tips that were helpful along the way. If you want to watch a video of us putting it together (I for one am a visual learner, and it always helps me to actually see), check out this reel :)
The Ingredients:
- Brie cheese for the faces - Brie cheese is definitely the easiest to work with, and is great for cutting shapes, or in this case, making faces haha. We did cut the crusts off and smoothed them over with a butter knife.
- Blackberries for Mary's hair, Chorizo for Winifred's hair and Rosemary Gouda for Sarah's hair - Tooth picks will be your best friend for assembling Winifred’s hair - To make the curly look for her hair, simply roll each piece of chorizo, then fold it in half
- Clementine slices, green grapes and sliced strawberries for the bodies
- Purple topped cheese: Sartori Bellavitano Merlot - Being purple, this was a great touch for a Halloween board
- Prosciutto fingers topped with fingertips for decoration - These turned out so cute, and the fingertips actually worked great for pick them up with! I'm always down for when cuteness meets functionality haha.
- Broomsticks (Reese’s cups + pretzel sticks)
- These turned out SO cute! Madeline actually helped me make these. I always love a sweet/savory snack.
- Black Cat: shaped out of cream cheese and topped with blackberry jam
- Orange cheese: Leicester
- Meats next to cat: Dry Salame on the right and Capocollo on the left
- First Bowl: Olive and feta salad topped with edible eyeballs
- Second Bowl: Olive tapenade
- Fruit snacks for sisters eyes + Winifred’s lips - For the eyes, we ended up slicing three fruit snacks in half. - For Winifred's lips, two put together worked perfectly.
- Twizzlers for Mary and Sarah’s lips - One for Mary's lips - Two basically shaped and quashed together on the ends to make a lip shape for Sarah's
- Add little spider rings for a final touch
We were so excited with how this turned out! I'll link the exact board we used, some of the decorations and a few more things in the widget below. If you try it one, please tag me! We would love to see :)
Hi friends! The countdown to Halloween is on. Goodness do I love costumes and dressing up! It's especially so fun getting to do them with Madeline. I love a good DIY, and when it includes some fun makeup, count me in! I've always wanted to try out a scarecrow look, and this year we had the opportunity to do that. It was so affordable and easy! Jaycee even got in on the fun. We already had the overalls + flannel button up shirts, so all I had to purchase for our costumes were some ribbons to make the patches, buttons for an added touch and the straw hats. I'm going to share some photos then will mention what I used to put our looks together. I already had most of the makeup as well, and will mention what I used/how I used it on us below :)
I already had our overalls and we love them, so I didn't want to permanently turn them into a scarecrow. For a temporary fix, I simply used a glue gun to attach the buttons to the overalls, and they snapped right off after. I used a glue gun to make the patches (three strips of ribbon each), and once they were done, I used some garment tape to stick the patches onto the overalls, again for a temporary fix. I did take a glue gun to the hats to make a cute band out of the plaid and burlap ribbons, then added a sunflower - perfect for a bright and cheery touch! The buttons were truly an adorable touch as well, and this button set was awesome to have!
Makeup
For my face, I started with the base: foundation, concealer and set it all in place with powder.
Eyes:
I used the oranges and a few other warmer tone shadows from this palette. This palette is your best friend for Halloween looks with all the bright, vibrant colors! Basically just started in the creases with the brightest orange in the palette. I incorporated a few of the other similar orange tone colors and blended really well. I added the yellow to the inner corners. Lots of blending! I also added some of the deepest orange to underneath my bottom lash line. I then put a gold shimmer on my lids (from this palette). I did my winged liner and brows, then added a touch of mascara + these false lashes.
Cheeks:
For my cheeks, I used the same brightest orange from the palette listed above. I also dabbed it onto my chin and above my brows. I also added some faux freckles to my cheeks and chin with this freckle pen.
Lips:
I used this bright orange lip stain for my lips. You definitely want to use a stain because it needs to be dried before drawing the scarecrow lines across your lips. Next, the lines! I used my same eyeliner to draw the lines out from each side of my mouth + the stitches. I also drew lines on my lips, then once dried, I used my fingers to gently smudge out the lip stain to make it look a little messier.
Scarecrow Nose and Neck:
For my nose, I drew an oval on the tip of my nose with the liner and added the stitches around. I then dabbed the inside of that oval with an orange from the same eyeshadow palette I used throughout. Lastly, I added a line and stitches to my neck.
For Madeline, I mostly did the same for her but not as extreme (no foundation, no lashes, not as much eyeshadow, etc.)
If y'all try out this scarecrow look, please share on IG and tag me, @racheltimmerman :) Thanks so much for stopping by, and let me know if y'all have any questions!
