2016: A Look Back Through My Year

I can't get over the fact that today is the last day of 2016. It seems like just yesterday that I was writing a recap post for last year. I can honestly say that this year seems to have flown by faster than any other year. The saying "time flies when you're having fun" has held to be so true. I'll be honest, I walked into this year with more feelings of "not knowing" than I ever have before. We never know what a year will hold for us, but we usually have a feeling of "this will happen" or "I'll be doing this activity this year." For instance, I went into 2015 knowing that I would become a mama. Speaking of, I really didn't think that 2016 could top 2015, because how can anything top becoming a parent and meeting your baby for the very first time. But goodness was I wrong, because thanks to this sweet little girl in the pictures here, 2016 was full of fun, excitement and so many sweet moments.

When I found out I was going to have a little girl, I knew that I would love her to pieces but I never knew I would love her this much. When I found out I was going to be her mama, I knew that we would share a bond like no other, but I never realized it would be this special. Even at this young age, the bond we share is so close and sweet. I think one of my favorite parts of 2016 was the fact that Madeline began saying words. Her first word was "Hot" (my Mama taught her that food is hot at first haha), "Ice" and then "Mama". Even after months of hearing her say it, my heart just bursts with joy each time I hear her say my name. Each stage with her has been so much fun, but these last few months have been so so fun. I love watching her learn new things as she is taking in so much at such a fast pace right now. Seriously, I am astounded at some of the things this little girl comes out with. She keeps me on my toes, and she keeps my heart full of joy.

I absolutely love to just hold her when she falls asleep and stare at her. Sometimes, I still can't get over the fact that she's mine, and all I can say is "Thank you, Lord, for making me Madeline's Mama." I look back at all of the scary times, not knowing if I was able or prepared to be a mama, but it really is amazing to look back and see all that the Lord has brought me through as he has shaped and molded me to become what he has in store for me.

As I said, 2016 was definitely a year of not knowing, and through each step, I held my Heavenly Father's hand. He showed me that through him, all things are possible. I don't know how, but in the matter of a few months, I was beginning a new program in school, one that I never ever imagined myself being in. I blinked, and I'm already through the first semester of the program. I was also able to continue my blog and developed a new appreciation for it, unlike ever before. I was able to grow it and take it in a new direction. And most importantly, I am so very thankful that I was able to do both of these all from home so that I could work my schedule out to where being Madeline's Mama could remain the most important of all. All I know is that the Lord worked all of this out for me and allowed it all to happen in the way it did. I give him all the glory!

In 2016, I also learned to lean on the power of prayer even more. I found my prayer time being the most powerful moments of my day. I realized even more the importance of taking everything to the Lord in prayer. I learned to lean on his promises more than ever. "He will never leave you nor forsake you" and that is so so true, friends.

And again with this year, I am so very grateful for my family! The love that they show to me and especially Madeline touches my heart in every single way. And especially my Mama. If y'all didn't already know this, she takes all of my blog pictures! She never complains and always helps me to get my pictures just the way I need them. She is my biggest supporter and always encourages me to keep up what I love doing. The bond that she shares with me and Madeline is also so special. We call ourselves "the three Ms" (she's Mimi, I'm Mama, and then Madeline). We have so much fun together, and this year has proven to be more true with the fact the she's the best friend I could ever have.  I have always been super close to her, but having your own daughter makes you realize how much you love your own mama even more.

And again in the year of 2016, I thank my Madeline for encouraging me to carry on. Everything I do is for her. This year was definitely a year of being tired haha. In order to stay on top of everything, sleep is what ended up getting cut out of my schedule. But I always had the encouragement to continue going, as everything I did was for my precious daughter. I always want her to know not to give up, especially when that seems to be the easiest thing to do. And for her to remember that "those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength..." (one of my favorite verses). So, Madeline, thank you for encouraging me to be the very best that I can be. Thank you for filling my heart with more joy than I could ever imagine. Everything I do, I do it all for you. Being your mama is my favorite part of life, and I love you more than you will ever know.

As for 2017, I feel that there are just as many "not knowings" as there were in 2016. I honestly have no idea of what this year has in store for me and Madeline. But this year is definitely a year of trusting. I am trusting in the Lord as I know that he holds our plans. I give it all to him. I think it's something how I can make plans and decide "okay, this is what I want for this year." Not that there's anything wrong with setting goals as I'm all for that (seriously, y'all should see my list for this upcoming year haha). But I sit there and pray and beg for the Lord to bring it all to pass. And then I start to get frustrated at times when I don't see what I had planned begin to happen. But as with this past year and the previous year, the Lord instead showed me his plan for my life as it has proven to be more than I could ever ask for or think of. That's the beauty of trusting in our Heavenly Father and giving our lives to him. So, for 2017, I trust. I trust in him, "who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think."

I also just want to say a huge "thank you" to each and every one of you who continue to visit my little space on the internet. The sweet comments and emails that I receive are one of the biggest reasons of why I love what I do. Thank you thank you thank you for sticking with me on this crazy adventure. Thank you for showing me that despite all of the hatred and craziness in this world, there are still so many kind hearted individuals like you all. Thank you for all of your love and support. I'm so excited to take y'all along on the journey and plans for my blog in 2017.

Wishing each of you a blessed and safe new year.

Thank you so much for reading.

Cowl Neck Dress (on sale for $29!!!) // Scarf (sold out but loving this one and this one) // Coin Necklace // Bar Necklace // ZAC Zac Posen Bag // Fur Pom-Pom // Boots (Super on sale!) //

Happy Friday, Friends! This cute easy dress is one that I have been living in and so excited to share with y'all. Best part? It's on sale for $29 and comes in six colors!!! Need I say more? I think I'm going to grab it up in black as well, because it's just. that. good. It is so easy to style. I also feel like I live in scarves these days. How adorable is this one? I also have to point out these boots because I found them for more than 50% off and available in most sizes. They are the perfect color for winter. There are so many great sales going on right now, and Nordstrom's Half Yearly Sale is one you don't want to miss! I'll be highlighting some of favorites at the bottom of this post.

I also want to point out something that I received for Christmas. My sweet mama and Madeline gave me a necklace that I'll cherish forever! The delicate bar necklace I'm wearing here is just the sweetest thing. You probably can't see it very well here, but the word "Mama" is engraved on the left side. What's so sweet about it is that this necklace tilts to the left, and with the engraving being on this same side, it falls over my heart. Being Madeline's mama is my favorite part of life and what I hold dearest, so I can always wear it over my heart :) You can get these necklaces engraved with whatever you'd like, and they make for such a special gift. I just had to share!

What Are You Wearing New Year's Eve...

Happy Wednesday, Friends! I hope y'all had the Merriest Christmas! I don't know about y'all, but I have had the most difficult time getting back into the swing of things. Two days before Christmas Madeline got sick, and I caught it a few days later. I think the combination of being sick and just being tired from Christmas has had me slow to get going again, so I apologize for being kind of silent on here over the past few days.

Who else finds it difficult to grasp the fact that there are only a few short days left of 2016?! Seriously, where has this year gone! It seems like I blinked and here we are, about to take on 2017. Have you picked out your NYE outfit yet? I never have a reason to get dressed up on NYE as I'm always enjoying being a mama and spending time with my family on New Years Eve. But even when I'm having a casual NYE, I always remember to wear some sparkles! If you're having a laid back evening, I suggest going with a sparkle sweater or sequin knit like this one or this one. I also love the idea of pairing them with faux leather leggings for a chic look. Add a fun glitter flat and some statement earrings to top off your casual NYE look. If you're getting dressed up for a fun night out, then these dress options above would be perfect! I absolutely love this one (can't believe the price of this one and can't get over the sequins and ruffles) and this one. And again, statement earrings are a must to finish off the look!

So, "Here comes the jackpot question in advance" 😉 what are you wearing New Year's Eve?

Ruffled Peplum (40% off with code GIFTNOW) // Denim // Plaid Pumps // Tory Burch York tote // Necklace // Yurman Bracelet

Happy Friday! Today I'm turning this adorable striped, ruffled peplum into a festive look with the help of my favorite plaid pumps (and a hint of sparkle). I can't express how much I adore this top. And guess what...it was just restocked in all sizes and is 40% off with the code GIFTNOW. Run don't walk, because it won't stay in stock for long. I will be wearing it for months to come. There are so many styling options for this one top. I also think it will be so cute paired with white denim in the spring. It is seriously a must-have :)

Well, I can't believe that it's officially Christmas weekend. Where did the time go? I feel like I find myself saying each year that I wish I had one extra week to just enjoy everything. Maybe the solution would be to finish all of my shopping and wrapping a little earlier haha, but that is never the case. I'm so excited for all of the many Christmas traditions planned for this weekend. I can't wait to see the joy in Madeline's eyes on Christmas morning. She has been waking up extra early several days this week, and yesterday morning in particular, I told her all about the Christmas story and the real reason of why we celebrate Christmas. It was the sweetest thing, because she just sat in my lap listening and kept saying "bebe" when I was telling her all about Baby Jesus. It is amazing how the Lord can begin to work in the heart of our little ones. I just cherish each and every second like this one with Madeline.

Thanks so much for reading! I wish you all a very merry Christmas.

Hello and happy Wednesday! Today I'm styling what is hands down my favorite winter coat! I purchased this coat after eyeing it for quite some time and am so glad that I did! I can't express how much I have enjoyed it. Seriously, I get excited for the cold days so that I can wear it :) I love the faux fur trim around the hood, however I also love that the faux fur is optional and can be taken off for a not as dressy look. It comes in grey, black and red and is currently very much on sale! I am crossing my fingers that some sizes come back in stock in the grey and black, but the red is currently fully stocked. It is seriously an amazing coat!

Also, I just want to mention my two all time favorite Yurman bracelets. The classic Yurman Link Bracelet and the Yurman "X" Bracelet are my very favorites - I wear them pretty much every day. So, if you're still trying to find the perfect "luxe gift for her" then I highly recommend these two pieces. There's still time to get them for Christmas (see yesterday's post for a full roundup of where to find last minute gifts in time for Christmas).

Happy Monday, Friends! I can't believe we are officially to the week of Christmas! So much to do, so little time. I am so excited to be sharing our 2016 Christmas pictures with y'all today. We had so much fun going back to Gay's Christmas Tree Farm as we did last year. My whole idea for our theme started when I saw this adorable buffalo plaid mini skirt for Madeline. I then found this buffalo plaid cape (that is reversible and can also be worn as a scarf) for myself. I'm obsessed with it, and it is currently super on sale! I knew that Madeline and Jaycee could coordinate with matching Buffalo Plaid hair bows. I absolutely love the way that everything turned out. Madeline just doesn't hold still these days, so I was thrilled that my friend, Leah, was able to get so many cute shots of her. Leah is an amazingly talented photographer and the absolute sweetest person. I am so so pleased with the way our photos turned out. Nothing makes a mama's heart happier than having some of the sweetest shots of your little ones :)

All photography is by Lumarie Photo & Design. Be sure to check out Leah's blog and be sure to follow along on her Instagram and Facebook page! And if you're in the Augusta area, I highly recommend her for all of your photography needs.
