A Whaley Fun Sweater

Sweater: Vineyard Vines c/o
Shorts: J.Crew
Flats: Ann Taylor
Jewelry: Necklace, Earrings, Bracelets (1 / 2 / 3), Ring

If you love Vineyard Vines, the usage of a good whale pun is a must.  With that being said, I "whaley" like this sweater.  It's light weight, pastel and basically perfect.  Before this little cold spell we've been having, I was able to wear it with shorts and take a few photos to share on my blog.  I can't wait to enjoy it more during spring break at the beach.  I love Vineyard Vines…it's a company that makes you feel great in what you're wearing.  After all, "Every day should feel this good," right?

Clutches and Such

The spring and summer time is when I find myself wanting to use a clutch.  When I'm in school, a big bag or cross body are the styles I call my go-to (holds a lot and hands free).  Now that the brighter, warmer months are ahead, I am wanting needing a bright clutch.  The clutches by Gigi New York are calling my name.  I've fallen in love with these, possible by spending a bit too much time on Pinterest (is too much time on Pinterest even possible?).  My favorite style is the Embossed Python Clutch, with personalization added, of course.  Aren't these bright and perfect?
And to go along with the clutch, how darling is the matching phone case?  I'm obsessed.
Do you have a Gigi New York?

Internal Narrative - Salon Day

This is the first of many internal narratives on A Preppy State of Mind.  The other day, I was driving to my long awaited hair appointment while on the phone with Jaclyn.  I had been running behind that day and hardly had time to get a shower, meaning I went to the salon with my hair half wet and my makeup barely on.  When walking into the salon (running late as usual), Ashley (my stylist) was waiting for me at the receptionist desk, so I ran in and made a beeline to the chair to avoid seeing anyone I might know.  I was embarrassed yet so excited to get my hair done.  On the drive over, I was expressing my combination of embarrassment and excitement to Jaclyn, to discover that we both feel the same way on salon day.  This inspired us to make a list of what we like to call "An internal narrative of the long awaited salon appointment."  Enjoy!
  1. "There's really no point in making my hair look presentable, because I'm headed straight to the salon."
  2. "But what if there is someone I know at the salon?"
  3. "THE DAY HAS COME! Finally, I don't have to be embarrassed that my roots are showing or my ends are split. My hair will soon be perfect!"
  4. "I'll walk in really fast and make a straight line to the chair, that way to avoid contact with even the receptionist."
  5. "I hope my hair stylist doesn't think this is how I style my hair every day…"
  6. "I can't wait to tell her what has happened since last time she saw me."
  7. "Oh wait, what did she hear last…I don't want to waste time with repeated stories."
  8. "I need to remember to tell her... no layers this time, don't pull the ends all the way through, I want it parted farther to the side…"
  9. "I don't have to wash my hair for two more days. That way the color can sink in. Yesssss!"
  10. "Should I get a different style? Should I cut it short enough so that ALL the dead ends are off? or just have her 'dust the ends' like usual?"
  11. "Hmmmm I wonder if I'll come home with a different kind of shampoo or hair product(s)?"
  12. "I really hope no one sees me driving to the salon…"
  13. "Don't forget to bring makeup to touch up after…the water may splash my face!  Or should I even bother doing my makeup before I go at all?"
  14. "I should probably wear a really cute outfit to make up for my lack of hairstyling effort/ makeup."
  15. "How does she move the brush like that? My hair never looks this way after I blow dry it…"
  16. "I wish someone could wash my hair and massage my head everyday!"
  17. "Why don't they make a more comfortable neck rest…the bowl doesn't count!"
  18. "How much should I tip for hair therapy? I wonder if she gave me any free treatments this time."
  19. "What life lesson will I walk away with today?"
  20. "I look like a new person!"
And the best way to end every salon appointment is with a #hairsalonselfie.  Here are our latest salon selfies.

Can you relate to these thoughts?

Derby Days - Aiken Steeplechase

Jaclyn: Dress, Shoes, Necklace

This past Saturday, I had so much fun attending the Aiken, SC Steeplechase with Jaclyn.  It was such an exciting event…as if dressing up in Lilly and wearing a derby hat aren't fun enough already.  We were in search for the perfect derby hats.  My boss, who has attended her fair share of horse races and is an avid collector of vintage derby hats, handed me a pile to go through.  Jaclyn and I had a blast trying them on with our dresses and choosing the perfect ones.

Don't you just love derby days!  I'm looking forward to this next weekend with the Carolina Cup.  Who else is going?

Chambray Kind Of Day

You can never go wrong with a chambray top.  One of my favorite ways to wear it is to pair it with my black travel pants.  It's effortless yet chic.  Add some jewels and color to spice it up a bit.  Speaking of jewels, I love how this particular shirt has jewel embellishments on the collar.

Fix Blow Dry Bar

Happy Thursday, everyone!  I am so excited for today's post.  I have had the opportunity to work with a local business, Fix Blow Dry Bar!  This was such a fun collaboration, and I'm so happy to be able to share this on my blog.

When thinking of a blow dry bar, one might classify it as a place to go get a quick fix for an event.  Fix is so much more than that, and I was so thrilled that I got to go in and experience all it really is.  It truly is a happy place, a comfortable place, and most hospitable.  You feel relaxed and made at home while being made chic with the hair fix of request.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that Fix is more than a blow dry bar.  It's a place to have fun.  With the many services offered, there is a way to cater to everyone's needs.  Make Fix the perfect date with your girlfriends, stop by for a fix for an event hairstyle, make Fix a stop on your bachelorette weekend, or reserve the spacious salon for your entire bridal party.  Makeup applications are also available.  As I said, there is something for everyone.  I love how birthday parties are offered (I wish I could have had a birthday party like that when I was young), and my very favorite, Mother Daughter braiding classes.  How fabulous is that!

I went in for an up-do.  Have a look at the results!  I was so pleased.  I requested an effortless look, and I got just that.
Allow me to take you on a little tour through Fix Blow Dry Bar.
The best smelling hairspray I have ever smelt!
The bottle (and matching straightener) are too fun.
There's even something darling to hang your purse on while getting your fix.
Don't you just love all the purple?
I'll take a pair of those bow studs, please.
There are even custom salon umbrellas waiting to assist you to your car…just incase it's a rainy day.

So, if you're local in the Augusta area or plan on visiting (maybe you'll be here for the Masters Golf Tournament?), make your plans to visit Fix!  When you do, mention to the fabulous staff that you heard about them on A Preppy State of Mind to receive a complimentary 10 minute head massage.
