Hello friends and happy Wednesday! I hope y'all are having a great week so far. About a week and a half ago, I had to run to Ulta. I needed to stock up on a few products and was looking for a few new ones to try out as well. It's very rare that I come out loving every single product I picked up. I was looking for a new primer, something to brighten my under eyes more, a new concealer, etc. What I didn't know is that I would come out with several products that are huge money savers! Y'all, I'm SO excited! I have been using these products for about a week and a half now, and I'm still absolutely loving them. An Ulta run this successful calls for a blog post :)


as I mentioned, I was on the hunt for a new primer. My skin type is more on the dry side. I was tired of my primer making my face feel dried out, and overall my foundation wouldn't apply as smoothly as I had wanted it to. This primer is amazing, if you have a dry skin type! This stuff on top of your favorite moisturizer is more than enough to combat dry skin! My face looks so much more replenished with this primer, and my foundation applies much more smoothly. I highly recommend this stuff!


I wasn't exactly on the hunt for a new foundation. I've been using the Estee Lauder Double Wear for years. I love it but was running out, and my Ulta doesn't carry Estee Lauder. I was completely out, so I didn't have time to order it and really didn't want to run to both Ulta and Sephora haha.

I had heard that the Ultra Wear is very comparable to the Double Wear. I had actually tried it out once before but got matched up to the incorrect color. I decided to get matched up again, and I love it!! I can barely tell the difference between the two. Honestly, I think the Double Wear dries out my skin a little more and makes me look a little more cakey. What I love about the Ultra Wear is that it offers amazing coverage, which is a requirement for my foundation. It also does not wear off the tip of my nose by the end of the day haha, which is a problem I've had with so many formulas. I highly recommend this foundation, especially if you want amazing coverage. It also has SPF 15. I got matched up to the color 215 Buff


Okay I had heard soooo many great things about this product and had always wanted to try it out. I was tired of using the same concealer for both under my eyes and on the other parts of my face. I wanted something that offered more coverage under my eyes, overall brightening things up more. I needed something with a thicker consistency, overall. Y'all, this stuff most definitely does the trick!!! It offers amazing coverage and does an amazing job brightening up my under eyes! I went with the shade Light Fair because I really wanted to brighten things up!


If you love the Ultra Wear foundation, you'll love this concealer!!! I wasn't happy with the concealer I had been using for the other parts of my face (my t-zone, blemishes, etc.). Since I had heard so many great things about the Ultra Wear foundation, I decided to give this one a try as well. I absolutely love it! It's a thicker consistency than the one I had been using, but not too thick. I got matched up to the color 90 Ivoire.


Okay y'all, now for the purchase I am most excited about!!! This one is going to be such a huge money saver for me! I have been using a translucent powder for years. I bake with it to set my under eyes and a few other parts of my face. There's so much neat stuff you can do with a translucent powder. I had been using the Laura Mercier translucent powder and then decided to try the one by Lancome (it's a few dollars less and again, I didn't want to go to both Ultra and Sephora in one day haha). But now, I've found something that's sooo much cheeper, and I can hardly tell the difference. The Laura Mercier powder is $39. The Lancome is $37. I go through one about every two months or so. Okay, are y'all ready for this?! The Fit Me Loose Powder is 7.99!!!! YES, 7.99! Even though it's not as large of a container as the Laura Mercier or Lancome (not too much of a difference, though), the price is SO much better! I went with the color fair, and again, I pretty much can't even tell a difference between the three powders. I'm hooked and SO excited for this find! No more spending almost $40 on a powder for me. I'm going to stock up on this powder, because it's such a game changer. 


I was running out of some of my favorite warm, neutral eyeshadows. However, I was looking for a palette that wasn't crazy expensive. This one caught my eye, and I thought the colors were so pretty! Everything I look for with a warm, neutral palette. "Bronzed Babe" is such a perfect name for this one! I had never tried this brand before, and had no idea how I'd like the shadows, but y'all, I'm SO pleased! And for 12.99? Yes, please! I use "sunnies" below my brows, "vacay" on my lids, "beach please" in the creases and "midnight dip" in the corners. Blend them all together and you'll have a gorgeous warm, neutrals look! This palette was also just re-stocked online, so grab one up while you can!



This wasn't a new product for me, but instead a re-stock. I use these every single day, just to add a hint of sparkle! I was running out of one of my favorites, "Smoky Storm", so I got another one. I also love "Kitten Karma" and "Smoldering Satin" :) 


Here's another product that is a huge money saver for me. I'm So obsessed with this stuff and it works wonders! I love using a good bit of highlighter. When it comes to highlighting, I go all the way! I was running out of my favorite liquid highlighter by YSL (around $40). I was about to try out a different liquid highlighter when someone at Ultra recommended this stuff to my. I had been using both a liquid highlighter then going back on top of it with a regular highlighter. This stuff is almost like a highlighter primer for me haha. It's SO silky smooth! It applies so easily. I use it before using my regular highlighter. It works wonders! I got it in the color "flexitarian". It's only $8!


I saw this highlighter glow kit and instantly fell in love with it! I had been using a highlighter by Becca, but was feeling it was too pink for me. One Becca highlighter is the price of this entire glow kit that has four highlighters about the same size as one Becca! I'm obsessed! I pretty much love all four highlighters. They're smooth and add the prettiest glow. I highly recommend this glow kit! 


Lastly are two more products that are re-stocks for me. If you've been following me for a while, you know that I only use Bumble & Bumble products! My hair guy introduced me to them when I first started going to him (almost three years ago) and have been hooked every since! I have found about eight products from their line that work wonders for my hair! I've figured out what to mix with what that makes my hair style so much better and hold it! I have a super fine hair texture and need to help. Their thickening line is just about the best thing ever!!! The thickening mouse has worked wonders for my fine hair. I apply it to my roots before trying my hair and it works wonders, adding so much body! I also spray the thickening spray all over my hair before adding the mouse, which also helps SO much with thickening. After I've styled my hair, I use the dryspun finish spray. I can't do without this stuff! It simply works wonders and also smells amazing :) Also, I was reading reviews on the thickening mouse and noticed people saying they had changed the formula and it does not work the same. I haven't noticed this? It still works so well for me, but I'm going to pay closer attention now that I've read this. It's still a must-have for me!

Hello friends and happy Monday! I know I've been pretty slow getting back to my normal blogging schedule. But this week I'm hoping to change that! I have some fun content planned, plus several adorable mommy and me Valentine looks coming. Be on the look out for that! 

Today I'm so excited to share one of the cutest sweaters ever! We actually shot this look the day after Christmas (so ignore the red and green nails haha). But the details are absolutely irresistible. I mean, a bow, scallops and chenille?! Yes, please! The most exciting part is that it was just marked down to under $50 and is in stock in all sizes! I have it in the size small. It's such a darling sweater. Cute sweaters are what get me through the winter months. I also love it paired with this blush pom pom beanie.

Also, better late than never, but I'm excited to share a few of my 2019 goals with y'all today. I don't really like to call them resolutions. One, I feel it's entirely overrated haha. And if I call them resolutions, there's more of a chance I won't get to them. But that's just me. To each their own :) Secondly, I feel like it's more important to set goals, where you're growing in your walk of life, rather than resolutions, where you're pressured to change. I don't know about y'all, but that just intimidates me haha. Because when I think of resolutions, I feel like I am pressured to change who I am, rather than a goal where I want to work hard towards something. I hope that makes sense...it's much more difficult to put into words. Anyways, let's get to them! First I'll share a few personal, then I'll share a few for my blog. 

Personal Goals for 2019

1. Grow closer to the Lord - I've decided that 2019 is the year I'm going to grow closer to the Lord than I ever have before. I wholeheartedly want a relationship so close to Him that I will never doubt anything that comes my way. I want to feel His presence like I never have before. I pray for His wisdom. I need Him, and I want to get to know Him like I never have before. 

2. Read the Bible from beginning to end - Also this year, I plan to read the Bible all the way through. I started over again with Genesis (one of my very favorite books!) and goodness am I loving it more than I have in my past times studying it. I'm so excited for this! If any of y'all have this same goal for 2019, I'd love to hear! Maybe we could even help hold ourselves accountable :)

3. Be more intentional about my prayer life - I wholeheartedly believe in the power of prayer and have truly seen the results of the power of prayer. There's so much I'm praying about, so many people I'm praying for, and most importantly, SO much to thank the Lord for and praise Him for. So, my prayer time is going to be of utmost importance. I need the Lord's help and guidance with so much, and I'm fully trusting in Him.

4. Trust the Lord fully - I can honestly say that I've struggled with this recently. I know it's satan and I can't let him win, but there's a lot I've been doubting lately. And honestly, I have a burning desire to change this. I have recently just felt the Lord saying, "trust me and my timing". For example, I was really struggling with this the other day, and on that day, my devotion was all about trusting the Lord. Just what I needed to read, and the Lord knew I needed that!

5. Get back into a workout routine - I got into such a healthy lifestyle in 2018, but it was kind of difficult to keep up when the fall arrived. This year, I'm not going to let that happen! I started back with BBG (Bikini Body Guide by Kayla Itsines). I absolutely love this program, mainly because I can easily do it from home with very little equipment. It only takes about 35-40 minutes a day. And it works!!! Doing it, along with healthy eating, I saw amazing results last year. It is by no means easy, but I love it. I do it through the SWEAT App. I started back on January 1st, and am currently on week two with it. 

6. Eat Better!! - This is so important! Also around the fall of last year, I got back into a horrible habit (mainly due to traveling a lot), of not caring what I ate. It started to take a toll on me, honestly. I started to feel awful. I'm happy to say that I've already changed that. I don't follow a meal plan or anything, just makes healthy choices :) I truly believe you can find something healthy to eat, pretty much anywhere you go. For example, stick to drinking water or unsweetened iced tea, stay away from soft drinks, stay away from sweets, choose grilled food over fried food, enjoy your veggies and fruit. And honestly, once you start a habit of this, it truly becomes a lifestyle.

7. Drink more water - Yes, yes and yes! Drink lots and lots of water. I try to drink a certain amount each day. And goodness can I tell a difference. 

8. Be the very best mama I can be to Madeline - This is just something that I say every year. I know I need the Lord's help with raising my daughter, and I give it all to Him! I want to teach her of the Lord each and every day. I want to fill her heart so full of Jesus! I am constantly asking the Lord's help with being the very best mama I can to her. This is just something that I like to say every year :)

9. Stay away from the comparison game - This is a hard one, and it is especially difficult in the blogging world. And goodness is it a dangerous trap to fall in! I am telling myself to stay in my lane and to now worry about anyone else. Stay focused on what I'm doing, being Madeline's mama and trust the Lord for everything to fall into place.

10. Become more self-confident - I know this may sound horrible, but y'all I have been so bad about believing in myself. Over the past few years, I've allowed myself to loose confidence in who I am, what I'm doing, etc. My Aunt Linda (If you're reading this, love you Aunt Linda!!), once told me to have God confidence in all I do. This year, I want to truly focus on not caring what others think about me, say about me or how they may try to treat me. This year I want to focus on being the person and running the race that the Lord has set before me. I am going to be confident in what I'm doing, my goals, how I look, how I feel, etc. I truly believe when you're confident, it radiates and can empower others to feel the same way. There are so many promises the Lord has made to us in His Word, and focusing on these is enough to give you the confidence you need to walk through life with your head held high. You are SO loved! That's nothing new in 2019, because God is the same yesterday, today and forever. But maybe it's new to you this year to lean on those promises! I'm right there with you, and it is definitely a goal for this year.

11. Travel to somewhere new - My mama and Madeline are my very favorites to travel with! This year I want to take a fun trip or two to somewhere we haven't been before. Any suggestions y'all may have, I'd love to hear! :)


Blogging Goals

1. Set a consistent blogging schedule - This is something I have honestly failed to do in the past. It helps so much when planning out a content schedule (monthly works best for me), and stick to it! One of the best tips of blogging is consistency. Even though I'm slow to starting the year off haha, my goal is to have 4-5 new posts up on here a week for y'all! The way to do this without feeling overwhelmed and burned out is to plan out your posts topics at the beginning of each month. I also would love to start off each month giving y'all a glimpse at my editorial calendar for that month. That way, y'all could kind of know what you can expect to see on Something Delightful that month :)

2. Set a more consistent work schedule overall - This definitely follows along with the last point, and I do believe it will take some trial and error, but I want to set out a more specific work schedule. With this, I'd like to start my day working even earlier, set aside a specific time to prep posts (preferably at night so they may be published earlier), respond to emails (I definitely need to work on this!), set out a time to work on Pinterest, plan looks, prepare looks, shoot looks, work on Instagram content, edit for both the blog and Instagram, and pretty much everything else that goes along with my job. I think if I had a more set work schedule, I would do a better job at getting content out when I wanted to. And to go along with this, it would help me from feeling overwhelmed. If I start to feel like I'm falling behind, I immediately beat myself up over it and feel like I've failed (as crazy as that sounds). But I do, and I need to stop this. So setting a schedule would be helpful, but I know there will be times when I can't follow it, because hey, life happens and being a mama absolutely 100% comes first, I won't stress over it too much :)

3. Listen to what Y'ALL want to see more of - I love asking and hearing more of what y'all would like to see more. Whether it's a certain look, a hair tutorial, my life as a single mom, etc., it helps me to know more of what y'all like to see and why you enjoy following me. In all honesty, sometimes I get scared to share some of the stuff y'all ask to see. I start to wonder who will read it and what certain people may think, but I've decided I'm going to stop with that nonsense. I am going to share more of what y'all ask to see this year and not worry about what certain people may think. This follows along with my personal goal of self-confidence.

4. Film a hair (both curly and straight) tutorials + a makeup tutorial - I will finally share this! I've decided 2019 is the year! Because in all honesty, this kind of intimidates me. As much as I love doing my hair and makeup, I find it to be so fun, I wonder if I'm doing it correctly. It's important to remember that with fashion and beauty, there really are no rules. So, expect to see a lot more of this from me in 2019!

5. Share more lifestyle posts - I always say, if I can encourage just one person, even if it took me 5+ hours to compose, an entire post on some topic is worth it. Yes, I'm a single mom. Yes, my life may not be the same as someone else's. Yes, my life may not fit right into the "mold" the world has set for it, but I truly believe it's so beautiful when we can all come together and share our differences and experiences. We are all unique, coming from different backgrounds. But I think we can all encourage one another in life. Sometimes if you just open up, you never know how much you could encourage someone else or even how much someone else may encourage you. That's why this year, I want to share more of my life. Whether it is what I eat in a day, what Madeline and I love to do together, what keeps me going on a daily basis, etc., I want to share more. 

6. Share more encouragement - This goes off my previous goal, of course, but I want to share more of my faith with y'all. I'm constantly growing in my walk with the Lord, and my hopes through sharing are that I will encourage even one person. I'm trying to think of fun ways to share more. One thing I want to do is memorize more Scripture. I thought it would be kind of fun to have a memory verse a week on here that I'm learning. And if any of y'all want to join me, we can all memorize together.

6. Partner with some brands & companies I love - This is also something newish for me. But this year it would be a dream come true to partner with some brands and companies I've always dreamed of partnering with. There's something just so exciting about creating content with brands and companies you love. Nordstrom would be a dream come true for me!

7. Be more consistent - This also goes off of my schedule goal above, but I want to be more consistent with blog posts. I even want to think of a few, fun blog series to share on here. For example, "Motherhood Monday" or something along the lines of that :) See where I'm going with that?

8. Start a news letter - Again, this is something I've ALWAYS wanted to do! This year I will make it happen. I wouldn't be spamming y'all with emails every day haha. But I'd send out a news letter maybe once a week on Fridays. It would contain a re-cap of the weeks blog posts, a few items I'm loving of the week, the weekly verse, weekend plans, etc. Would y'all enjoy this?

9. Reach 100k followers on Instagram - Okay this is a dream and it very well could not happen. Instagram has made it more difficult than ever to grow. Social media is always changing. With how difficult Instagram has made it with engagement, growing a following, etc. I told myself that I won't get myself down if I don't reach 100k this year. But it would be amazing :)

10.  Blog Re-Design - I love my currently blog design, but I want to make my blog much more user friendly. And I guess more professional, categorized and just be a more useful experience for y'all. I have big plans with this! If it works out (and fits in my budget for this year) It's definitely something I'd love to do! If y'all have any suggestions for graphic designers that you recommend, let me know! 

11. Build a community - Okay one more then I'll stop! Last year, I mentioned that I wanted to get to know you all better and vice versa. I used my Instagram stories as a way to just come on and talk to y'all. And I'm so happy to say that I truly feel I got to know y'all better and y'all got to know me better as well. I want to take it step further this year. I want to build a community! I want to find a way where we can all come together and encourage each other daily! Whether it's a prayer request, an item you're currently loving, a funny story, a word of encouragement for other mamas, etc., I want all of us to come together and share! I truly consider y'all to be my friends. Y'all mean so much to me. It may sound crazy, but I just feel like I know so many of you through chatting on here or on social media. I want to expand that. I think it would be so much fun!

One last thing to mention! Right after Christmas, I started to feel just over clothes. Yes, I'm a fashion blogger and yes I'm saying that haha. It honestly started when I shared my blog post on my Uncle Doug. Yes, I love fashion and will by all means continue to share! But I want to be an outlet for y'all. Sometimes, I just feel like I have so much more to share than clothing. 

One of the reasons I re-branded to "Something Delightful" in 2015 is because I wanted to be able to share anything on here with y'all! I want to be a delightful part of your day. An outlet where you can come here to find inspiration, encouragement, or just a reminder that you are beautiful and oh-so loved. Yes, a cute sweater that's on sale for a great buy is awesome and so is a hair product that adds tons of volume to your hair, but at the end of the day, it's not about what we're wearing or how our clothes look, but it's about how you feel in your heart. So in 2019, I will most definitely share my passion for creativity and fashion, but I am also going to be your friend. I want my posts to make you smile and just remind you that you are cherished and so very loved.

Here's to 2019! I'm trusting in the Lord for every single step, decision, and even every single blog post I compose. I hope y'all will continue to follow along and join in on all the fun. I appreciate you all so very much!

January 2019 Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale

Hello friends! If you're a Lilly Pulitzer lover like I am, then you've probably heard the exciting news...the January 2019 After Party Sale begins tomorrow at 8AM EST! I don't wear a lot of Lilly in the winter months, but I am so excited for this sale as it starts my excitement for the upcoming warm weather and is a GREAT opportunity to stock up on some Lilly (for both moms and kids!) for spring and summer 2019. Woohoo! The best part is for sure the prices. Pieces are usually 50% off and sometimes even more than that. Lilly does not run sales regularly throughout the year as they save up for this huge celebration of a sale that happenes twice a year (at the beginning of the year and at the end of summer). This is the only time you will see Lilly for such a steal. 

Today I want to share a quick run down of my favorite tips and tricks to shopping the sale. If you're new to the game, this post is for you! As silly as this may sound, there is a method to shopping the sale. Even if you've shopped the sale before, I recommend just skimming through this post to help you get prepared. Be sure to ahead and click through to lillypulitzer.com, just to make sure you're all  set and ready to go :) Let's get started, shall we?!

How The Sale Works:

The Lilly Pulitzer APS works by means of a virtual line. Don't let this scare you as this is actually a blessing (it keeps the site from crashing!). When you enter the sale on Monday, do not freak out if you enter right at 8:00AM to see that you're number 89,987 in line. The good news is that line tends to move very quickly. But remember, you must shop quickly once you enter the sale, because things do sell out in the blink of an eye and just because something is in your shopping cart doesn't mean it won't sell out. Be sure to see my tips below, as this will help you prepare a game plan for shopping the sale :) 

And lastly, it's important to remember that all sales are final with the APS! So, know your size and know what you're needing! You can also shop the sale as many times as you'd like. However, you will be placed back in the virtual line after checking out each time. Oh and remember, once you enter the sale and are placed in the virtual line, do not refresh the page! It will do that on its own for you once it's your turn to enter. Refreshing only puts you to the back of the line.

As I've mentioned in the past, there is a method to shopping the APS. If you don't shop with game plan, it's easy to become overwhelmed and you loose your items you set out to purchase. Next, I'm sharing my favorite tips and tricks to shopping the sale. Most of these are things you can do before hand that will help you tremendously when it comes time to shop. See them below:

My tips for shopping the sale:

Have your account set up ahead of time
If you don't already have a Lilly Pulitzer account set up, head over to Lilly now and do so (you can set one up here). You must have an account set up before you can place an order. It takes a few minutes, so you don't want to be setting up an account during the sale madness tomorrow. It's key to do as many things before hand as possible. And even if you do already have one set up, go ahead and log in just to make sure that you remember your log in info, make sure that your info (shipping, billing, payment) is correct, etc. If you do these things ahead of time, literally all you'll have to do for the order is click, click and click! 

Shop Simultaneously 
You can shop from as many devices as you choose to! Shop from your computer, your iPad, your iPhone, two computers, whatever! I always enter the sale from my computer right at 8, and I enter though my phone or iPad as well. So then whichever one I get through the sale to first, that's the one I shop on! 

Shop Fast
Remember not to waste time during this sale. Try to know what you want well in advanced. Look through your Lilly. Are you wanting some new shifts for this spring and summer? Are you wanting some cashmere cardigans to wear now? Is there a certain print you've had your eye on? Are you wanting some little shifts for your little one(s)? 

Think about these things now, make a list and have a game plan for the sale. That way, when you enter the sale, you already have an idea of what you're hoping to purchase. It allows you to shop fast! Items go in the blink of an eye, and nothing is "yours" until you hit "place order" so remember to make quick decisions. This leads to...

Shop Smart
I mentioned earlier that it's important to know what you're wanting, because all sales are final for this sale. Know what you're looking to buy, and don't buy just to buy. I have fallen guilty of that several times in the past and have wished that I could return some things. Set a budget of how much you're willing to spend, if this helps you. It's also important to know your sizing. You can check out Lilly's sizing info here

Shop Throughout the Day
As I mentioned earlier, you can shop the sale as many times as you please. As the day goes on, the line pretty much diminishes. I always overlook items the first time that I shop the sale. So, if it helps you, don't try to grab everything up at one time. The chaos dies down throughout the day.

Remember To Be Gracious
I always remind myself that bottom line, it's just a sale. Yes, it's exciting, but if you don't walk away getting everything you wanted, don't be bummed. There will be other Lilly sales in the future. Also, sometimes technical difficulties occur in the sale (the site has crashed many times in the past), which results in some unhappy Lilly lovers voicing their opinions. I find this to be disheartening. It's so great that Lilly does this sale, so remember to remain respectful and be gracious that there's an opportunity to get such amazing deals on Lilly.

Yayyyy the sale begun and is so amazing, y'all! I started off being 30,000+ in line, but I was in the sale within about thirty minutes or so. Not too bad! I feel like the selection is a little more slim than the summer sale, which is normal with the winter sale, I feel. However!!! There are some AMAZING pieces with even more amazing prices. I also feel like there are a lot of sizes to choose from. Anddd things just seem overall more chill than usual, which I'm super excited about.

I'm still making my shopping decisions. I found some things for myself and Madeline. I've also been finding some pieces for my sister for her honeymoon. I will keep y'a'll updated on what I end up purchasing :)

Hello friends! I hope y'al are having a great start to your new year :) We kind of hit the ground running yesterday. My sister is getting married (yesterday was the two month mark), so we're officially to under two months (woohoo)! The count down is on...or continues, I should say haha. I haven't shared as much on it, but I've been very involved in the planning process, loving every second of it. Planning my sister's wedding has honestly shown me just how much I love wedding planning. It basically feels like a passion I never knew I had. Now, I just want to watch Father of the Bride about 50 times over the next two months. I just can't wait until her big day :)

I don't know about y'all, but this time of year, I just want to live in leggings and oversized sweaters. Staying comfy is my current motto haha. My Spanx faux leather leggings are my absolute favorite. If I'm going to wear them, you better believe an oversized sweater is what the choice of pairing will be. If I'm dressing up a little more, then I'll throw on a pair of knee high boots. And if I'm really wanting to be comfortable, I'll wear my cozy Uggs. I also love to add in a scarf to complete the look + a pair of statement earrings

I will also find myself wearing legging and oversized sweaters a lot this time of year for another reason. I started my workouts back on Tuesday, and it feels so amazing! I love to workout in leggings and a sports bra. Lots of times, I will wear my favorite workout leggings, a sports bra and a pair of sneakers. So, after or before I do/have done my workout, I will throw on an oversized sweater and call it a day haha. 

Today, I'm sharing twelve oversized sweaters that are longer in length. My one requirement for wearing a sweater with leggings is that the sweater covers my behind. I've rounded up twelve that are all under $100 and can be worn in ways that I have mentioned above. Several are even on sale. I have a feeling these are the types of sweaters you can get a ton of use out of! And ones that will truly bring you through the winter. I absolutely adore the heart print sweater and am for sure ordering it! Next week, I am going to share a handful of sweaters that are perfect for Valentine's Day, so be on the lookout for that :)

Hello friends and happy New Years Eve! I simply cannot believe this is my very last blog post of 2018. I also hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I decided to take things kind of slow this past week which has been very nice. But I'm excited to kick this week off with a fun sequin mommy and me look, that is oh so perfect for NYE, plus reflecting on my year a little. Y'all know that I absolutely love twinning/coordinating with Madeline, so naturally my last post of the year had to be one with Madeline :) 

What do y'all have planned for NYE? I prefer a laid back NYE for sure. Every year for as long as I can remember, I have rung in the new year with my family, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Years ago I used to think it was boring and wished I could have some "bigger" plans haha, but now it's all I want to do. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love wearing sequins, like this sequin dress I have on here, and getting dressed up.  But I'll probably be in leggings and a cozy sweater, curled up with Madeline tonight :) We always eat a breakfast dinner on NYE with my family which is always so fun. 

...

When I look back on this past year, I just smile. In all honesty, I don't really feel like there's anything "big" or "outstanding" to announce haha. Last year (can't believe it's already been a year sing I wrote that!), I talked about how I felt that the Lord was simply telling me to "be still". And in all honesty, I still feel that way. But you know what? That's totally okay! When I look back on this year, I can't help but think on all the special memories made, the happy times, the challenging times, the hard times, the time for growth, etc. and overall translate them into the Lord's timing. Because that is truly what I've learned to cling to. I have always loved Ecclesiastes 3. I think it is such a beautiful display of the Lord's timing and how there truly is a season for everything. But even more so than realizing this is learning to embrace whatever season the Lord has placed you in. And truly understanding to "be still" in the moment. All I can think of with this is what a joy and blessing Madeline is to my life. How amazing it is to be her mama. Sometimes I look at her and think "pinch me" because I can't believe I have the pleasure of being her mama and watching her grow. She is already teaching me so many life lessons, and I can't help but think on what an absolute blessing she is. 

Another thing I want to share today as we end 2018 and prepare to start 2019 is something I read this in my devotional today and absolutely love: "[God] is never in a hurry, yet he is never late and is always on time." Do not underestimate the power of prayer. And most importantly, do not underestimate what the Lord can do in your life in 2019, that is part of His plan for you and His timing for your life. He can do "exceedingly, abundantly above all" that we could ever ask or think. Just think on that for a moment.  Right this very second, think of the biggest desire of your heart. Something you have been praying earnestly on/for/about. Now think about that times ten, plus so much more. More than you could ever ask or imagine. I say this because you never know what things the Lord has planned for your life this new year. Trust in God's plan and his timing. Because I've learned that there's no other way I'd want it to be. This next year, I hope to grow so very close to Jesus. More closely than I ever have been and truly get to know him more than I ever have. Because I truly believe that when my life lines up with Him, everything else will fall in place. So much comfort comes just from knowing that, and it makes me so excited for whatever the Lord has planned or me and Madeline this next year. 

Whether this year was amazing, confusing, full of life lessons, a feeling os simply "being still", etc., I hope this little message encouraged your heart. And most of all, helped you to be so very excited for what 2019 holds.

Meet Doug...

Hello Friends and happy Friday! I'm so very excited for today's post. It's something a little different from my usual fashion and gift guide posts of the season. It's one that is all about something much more special. It is all about someone who holds a very special place in my heart, has taught me some of the most valuable lessons in my life, has opened my eyes to so many things I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. This person is no one other than my Uncle Doug! Through this post, I hope y'all will be able to see even just a glimpse of the joy Doug brings to this world. Keep on reading if you want to meet Doug :)



I have always wanted to share a post all about my Uncle Doug, because I truly believe his smile needs to be seen by many, as it has the ability to instantly brighten your day! I felt that now would be the perfect time, because on Christmas Day, Doug will be celebrating his 60th birthday! And tonight, we are having a celebration for Doug at his very favorite restaurant. Doug is loved by so many!

Now for a little background on Doug. Christmas Day, 1958, my grandparents welcomed their first-born baby into the world. Doug was born with Down Syndrome. I could never put myself in my grandparent's shoes and understand how they felt at ages 22 and 27, knowing their baby boy was born with Down Syndrome. My grandmother has always told me that she never once doubted that Doug was more than perfect! I know when my grandparents look back on that very day Doug was born, they had no idea of what an absolute JOY Doug would be to so many, all the lives he would impact, all the lessons he would teach just by simply being there, and how his smile would absolutely light up a room. 

Through this post, I hope y'all will also be able to feel the joy that Doug brings and see what even the smallest act of kindness can do for someone. 



Now for some fun facts about Doug:

1. His birthday is on Christmas Day! He loves Christmas like no other and sharing his birthday with Jesus. He's Santa's biggest fan. And he will be SIXTY this Christmas Day! He takes his birthday cake very seriously (it must be round and decorated for Christmas). 

2. He loves music. His favorite song is Amazing Grace (he can sing it more beautifully than anyone I know) and he loves Louis Armstrong :)

3. His favorite thing to order is fried shrimp, with cocktail sauce for dipping, and sweet tea. 

4. His favorite restaurants are a local bar-b-que restaurant, a local sea food restaurant and Cracker Barrel. He frequents them every week!

5. He always knows which holiday is coming next and is ready to pull out some decorations.

6. Following the last fun fact, Doug also always knows who is going to have a birthday next in our family!

7. Doug is a world traveler! He has traveled with my grandparents to more states and countries than I ever will in my lifetime. He has souvenirs in his room from all over the world. And photos from all the places he has visited.

8. His favorite place to visit is New Smyrna Beach! One of my greatest joys of our family vacation there each year is seeing Doug enjoy it. He loves to sit out on the porch at night and look at the shrimp boats out in the ocean (and sing this song) :)

9. He is always ready to help my Grandmother, hold her arm and stand by her. You will always see them arm in arm.

10. He loves to draw! He has what we like to call his "workspace" at the kitchen table where he spends time working hard on his drawings each day.

11. He simply adores Jaycee and Madeline (and Madeline and Jaycee are just crazy about him)! When he sees them, you'll always hear him giggling uncontrollably. 

12. He loves Clemson Football! On another thought, if you haven't seen this video about this team's equipment manager, you NEED to watch it!

13. His favorite color is red.

14. He loves his photo books we have made for him, filled with photos of Madeline and Jaycee. He even sleeps on a pillowcase we made him, with Jaycee's picture on it, ever single night.

15. He LOVES snowmen! Even though we don't get too much snow here in Georgia, Doug has quite the snowman collection (figurines, socks, coffee mugs, etc.).

16. He has quite the collection of fun socks. You can always bet Doug will be wearing a pair every time you see him, no matter how dressed up he is haha. 

17. He's obsessed with vanilla ice cream. He can't end his day without having a scoop or two :)

18. He's an avid coffee drinker and has quite the coffee mug collection.

19. He loves his recliner! Chilling out at home in his recliner and watching TV is always a good idea to Doug.

20. He has the biggest heart of anyone you'll ever meet, and his smile (and hugs!) most definitely prove it. 

As y'all can see, Doug is quite the character! There's never a boring moment with Doug. But I think the most important one of all is his ability to brighten your day! You can be having the worst day ever, and Doug can instantly turn that right around. Doug loves the Lord, and hearing him sing, especially Amazing Grace, is one of the biggest blessings you'll ever hear. He has impacted the lives of so many, just by simply being himself. He is adored by countless people.

Lessons Doug Has Taught Me:

Life just wouldn't be the same without Doug. Growing up with Doug as my Uncle has been one of the greatest blessings in the world! Every time I would, and still to this day, visit my grandparents and Doug at their house, he is the first to welcome you at the door with a big bear hug! His hug is like no other. Even though Doug doesn't know it, he has taught me so many lessons in life.

Growing up, I never once thought Doug was any different than anyone else. My sister and I just loved to play and hang out with Doug! Actually, it was years before I even knew that he had something called Down Syndrome. And even though I didn't understand it then, Doug taught me such an important lesson in life: to never treat anyone any differently, just because they may look (or act) a little different from others. I'll never forget being at my birthday parties as a little girl and a few of my friends who attended my parties just standing there staring at Doug. I couldn't understand why they would look at him like that, and it honestly hurt. Now when I see someone stare at him, I am always determined to make eye contact and just give them a huge smile! Having Doug as my Uncle has taught me to be tender-hearted. 

Another valuable lesson Doug has taught me is how even the tiniest act of kindness has the ability to make such a huge difference in someones life. My grandmother always says, "You know, it doesn't take much to make Doug smile." That is SO true, and I truly believe it is for many people! You can simply talk to Doug, give him a hug, ask him how he is doing, take him to his favorite restaurant, etc., and you'll receive a huge smile in return! Because of Doug, I always try to remember this no matter where I am or who I come in contact with. Whether it's sparking up a conversation with someone, asking them how they're doing, surprising them with flowers, giving a hug, paying it forward in a drive-thru line, or even simply opening the door for someone or giving someone a smile, you never know the impact that even the smallest acts of kindness may have on someones life. 

Overall, Doug is such an example of the Lord's unconditional love and goodness to us. I tend to easily worry about things, and being with Doug always has a way of calming my heart. Doug never seems to worry about anything, takes it one day at a time and is always a reminder of just how much there is to be thankful for! Having Doug in my life and spending time with him is always a reminder of this. He just has a way of putting your mind at ease :)

I also love knowing that Doug is teaching Madeline so many life lessons, even though she is too young to understand now. What a blessing it is for her to have such an amazing Great-Uncle in her life! Just as my grandmother and mother have taught me, I want her to also learn early on how important it is to never treat anyone any differently and be tender-hearted. And just like I was at her age, she doesn't think of Doug as being any differently than anyone else. Oh how she adores Doug and he adores her as well. She loves "Doug Hugs" and you can always find them embracing each other when they're together. Doug loves when you tell him that he's a "Big Man" and Madeline knows this. When she's with him, I'll hear her telling him "Doug, you're such a big man!" and when he giggles, she loves to respond with "Doug, you're so funny" :) Seeing her and Doug together just melts my heart. The bond they share is so special, and what a blessing it is to know that Doug is such a big part of her life.

I'm so glad that I've had the opportunity to introduce y'all to Doug today. I hope that through this post, Doug has put a smile on your face as well. No matter what y'all are up to today, I challenge y'all to do some small act of kindness for someone just to see what a difference it can make in their life. Just remember what I said about Doug :) 

My grandmother has always quoted this verse to me, and I think it is so true to Doug and all other individuals with special needs. 

"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares"
~ Hebrews 13:2 ~

Remember this as you go about your day! You never know who you are going to come in contact with. Who the Lord is going to place in your path. Who the Lord is going to assign to your life that day! Whether it's someone with special needs or not, you never know if they may be "angels unawares".

We had so much fun taking these photos with Doug! He let me pick out his outfit, pick him up and have a fun little photoshoot with us haha :) I'll end my post with a little message to Doug, because I hope my grandmother will read this to him and show him the handsome pictures we got with him.

"I love you so much, Doug! I love everything about you. I love your smile, your hugs, your unconditional love, your caring ways, and most of all, your heart. Thank you for being such a huge part of my life and Madeline's. Although you may not know it, you have taught me some of the most valuable lessons in life and are doing the same for Madeline. And thank you, Ammama and Dandaddy, for the example of your unconditional love and care for Doug throughout your entire lives has been to me. Happy sixtieth birthday my sweet and special Uncle. I love you so much!"
